Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
In a large bowl mix the sugar, salt, melted butter, egg, and vanilla. Sift in the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and nutmeg. Mix well.
Roll the dough into small balls and place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Press with a fork to flatten. Bake 10 to 12 minutes, or until cookies are brown around the edges. Place on brown paper to cool. Store in an airtight cookie tin.
